1 General

1.1 Who can I contact if I have a problems with Application Anyplace?

For all questions related to Application Anyplace you can contact the Service Desk of Vattenfall IT.


1.2 I have access to Application Anyplace, but I do not see any applications.

Please make sure to add your applications to the favorites page from the APPS tab in the right top. If there are no applications to add please request the missing applications on the IT Service Portal → Order → Software.


1.3 Can I use an Apple computer or tablet device to access Application Anyplace?

This is not supported. You may still use it as Citrix is running on many platforms.

2 Phone Authentication and RSA SecurID Authentication

2.1 I am trying to log on using Phone Authentication, but I did not receive a call or mobile app alert within a minute. What can I do?

Give it a 2nd try after waiting 2 minutes. If it still does not react please ask Service Desk for advice.


2.2 Is there a fallback solution in case the Phone authentication call is not received (e. g. no network coverage) or I don’t have access to my phone? How can I still log on?

Application Anyplace is a modern, reliable and highly scalable solution. However, it is not designed for situations where a high availability of services is required. Please consider using other means to access your applications. There is also a hardware authenticator (RSA SecurID) available. Please ask Service Desk for advice.


2.3 What happens if I miss to react on phone call or App or enter a wrong password?

After six tries your Application Anyplace account will be locked. Please contact Service Desk to unlock it.


2.4 How long does it take to get the RSA SecurID token delivered?

Please allow a week. In case our stock is depleted and a new batch has to be ordered at the vendor the delivery can take four weeks.


2.5 What is my PIN needed for RSA SecurID and how do it get it?

You can define a PIN:

  1. Go to anplace.vattenfall.com
  2. Click on "Go to login"
  3. Enter your Vattenfall user name and password
  4. Depending on your services you will be presented with a screen to put in your token or to choose the authentication method
  5. Enter the 6-digit authentication code from the token’s display in the “passcode” input field.
  6. Click on "Login" and follow the instructions to create a PIN

2.6 I lost/forgot my PIN for RSA SecurID. What can I do?

The service desk can reset the PIN so that you can define a new one. They will provide the instructions on how to do this.

3 Error Messages

3.1 When trying to launch an application I get prompted to save, run or open a file called “Launch.ica”. What does this mean?

Most likely the Citrix Receiver software or browser plug-in is not installed on your computer. If you use a non-Vattenfall computer go to citrix.com to obtain it. Otherwise please contact Service Desk.


3.2 Wrong user name or password

If you receive an error message related to a wrong user name or password, please verify your login credentials. While using the remote access, your user name will be locked after the sixth time of wrong input of credentials. Only Vattenfall’s service desk can unlock the account.

4 Security

4.1 Is all data secure while using Application Anyplace?

Application Anyplace has especially been built for usage from non-Vattenfall devices. It is ensured, that only permitted people with a valid user account of Vattenfall have access. Data traffic is encrypted between the user's device and the Vattenfall network. This will not, however, ensure that there is no software installed on the local device, which enables others to see the same information that is displayed for you. Do not use Application Anyplace from computers that you do not trust.


4.2 What has to be taken into account, when storing data locally?

If you store data on the used device, you leave the secure Application Anyplace environment. Stored data will not be deleted automatically!

To secure, that no other user, is able to access the data, please act as follows:

  • Delete data via File Explorer
  • Empty the Recycle bin (otherwise the deletion can be revoked)
  • Delete the browser cache
    (for IE choose Extras – Internet options – delete temporary Internet files)

4.3 General notes about data security

Application Anyplace is secured by several security mechanisms.

  • Strong authentication procedures ensure that only authorized persons have access to the internal computer systems and applications.
  • Strong encryption technologies ensure that the traffic from unauthorized eaves dropping is protected on the internet.

In addition a user has to log in to the Vattenfall domain and if needed also to the particular application like on a Vattenfall PC.

Despite all the security measures, the security is also influenced by the behavior of the user. We ask you to observe the following rules:

  1. Never write down the PIN of your RSA SecurID token or your Vattenfall credentials.
  2. Never store secret credentials on the local device or save in browser settings.
  3. Don’t give your login information to any third parties. All user accounts are personalised!
  4. Check if a virus scanner is installed and enabled on the device!
  5. If you save data on the local device delete it after processing. Please empty the Windows Recycle Bin otherwise a deleted document can easily be restored. Also delete the cache of the web browser.
  6. Close all windows of your web browser after finishing the work on Application Anyplace and logoff from your computer system in a controlled way.
  7. Follow these rules especially if you work on a third-party device (e. g. Internet café PC etc.).
